Many moments in history, most of which have been violent, have added their own elements to what we now think of as being the Middle East...
The sacking and looting of the Jewish Temple by the Romans and the exiling of the Jews from their God-given promised land.
The discovery of immeasurable oil deposits in the vast arid desserts of Saudi Arabia, a country which few governments had heard of and even fewer knew where it was.
The rise of fanatical Nazism and the subsequent persecution of those Jews, who had managed to build a peaceful and successful life away their ancestral lands.
The Jewish genocide at the hands of the Nazis and the subsequent exodus of the surviving Jews to occupied Palestine. Here they battled the British and the local Arabs for the land which God said was the ‘promised land’. But as the bible also said, be careful of the seeds you sow, for those are the plants which you will harvest.
Now take three close university friends
Wilhelm ‘Willy’ Hausser, whose grandfather was a leading SS general and the man responsible for killing tens of thousands of Jews and days before the Germans captured Berlin, the Führer himself. Willy, the classic modern young German who is stoic about his family’s past and has totally rejected their views of the future, in favour of a more debauched and hedonistic lifestyle in Cambridge.
Daniel ‘Danny’ Levi, who could trace the Levi family tree all the way back to the guardians of the Temple of Jerusalem and whose father was the Haganah bomb maker responsible for the devastating attack on the King David Hotel in British occupied Jerusalem. The act of terror that robbed him of a father, made his brother join Mossad and turned Danny passionately from the path of violence and made him sympathetic to the Palestinians. All he really wants to do is to spend his time studying and socialising with his two flatmates and Rebecca... the woman he loves.
Then there is Prince Faisal Abdul bin Abdullah... ‘Binny’ as his two friends call him is the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia and probably the richest student that’s ever had the privilege to study ‘female human anatomy’ at Cambridge. Everything in life has come easy to Binny and being a student in England is no different. Vain, good looking and carefree are three of his more appealing characteristics and although raised in a strict Islamic household, being so far from home has meant a lapse in his religious morals.
In a world where the Russians and Americans are fuelling the developing Middle East crisis by supplying their respective allies with weapons and diplomatic support, and against a backdrop of this diplomatic tension, the three friends’ carefree student existence is on a head-on collision course with, a secret hoard of looted Hebrew treasure, a Jewish Nazi hunter, the Yom Kippur War, a western oil embargo imposed by the Saudi government in support of Egypt and a group of ex-Nazis, who still believe that the cause of all the world’s problems is the Jews.
So, when one of the friends mysteriously disappears during a summer vacation in Rome, the others are drawn inextricably into a series of seemingly unconnected cataclysmic events that puts all their lives and the world in danger. Never far away from the trouble is the mark of the Rosso Drago. A group of idealistic fanatics who look to further their own cause wherever and whenever they can, and whose insidious tentacles have a hold on governments, the United Nations and even the Vatican.
But the thread that binds all of the seemingly disparate parts together, is the fabled Jewish Temple Treasure. A vast store of riches and religious artefacts that has the possibility to bring everlasting peace to the region and the world. But like Pandora’s Box, sometimes you have to be very careful what you wish for.
Then just when you think you know the ending… well don’t read the last chapter first and remember evil leaves no footprints
Evil Leaves No Footprints edition by Jack G Hills Literature Fiction eBooks
This novel begins in AD 70 with the Romans stealing the wealth hidden in the Temple in Jerusalem. Having recently read a story of the Knights Templar and the Crusades in search of this wealth, I was amazed to find another slant to what could have happened to it. Jack Hills continues to describe mankind’s greed, cruelty and determination to become the dominant race throughout the ages, in a plausible and fascinating manner. In spite of the numerous grammatical errors , too many to bother to record, I found this insightful look into historical events throughout the ages right up until the end fascinating. My plea to the publishers would be to correct the errors which lower the rating given.Product details
