I will start this by saying that a lot of post-apocalyptic or sci-fi books are not my thing. However, Ruby Dixon is one of about 2 0r 3 authors that I will buy these from. She spins a great yarn :-). So when I saw this one come up I immediately one-clicked and started reading the next day.Really enjoyed this book! Interesting characters and character development. This lady has a great imagination to come up with all the details and ideas in this book. I can totally imagine 'Fort Dallas' and the devastation that is described in the book.
As always, the romance was good and the sex was hot! The heroine, Claudia, was a bit wishy-washy at times but I understood a bit of her inner conflict so I was okay with it in the end. Overall, I was totally taken with the story and cannot wait to read more in the series!
Safe read - some possible triggers with other characters. No cheating, no OW/OM drama. Also condom free if that's your thing!

Being a big fan of Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet Barbarians, Bedlam Butchers, and Bears books, I was looking forward to what new world she would bring us in this book. It is just as good as her others!!!
The dual viewpoint in this book is quite helpful in figuring out the dynamics of the actions and reactions of Kael. Ms Dixon has a nice way of showing us how he feels about Claudia without stepping out into telling us.
The backstory is quite interesting. There is societal collapse & danger. As a huge fan of apocalyptic & dystopian fiction, this book hits on all cylinders for apocalyptic, alien, romance, alpha male, strong female, and smexy times.
I'd recommend this book to anyone who likes apocalyptic romances, alien romances, and/or dragon romances.
I love post apocalyptic romances and I love Ruby Dixon but not so sure about Dragon romances. The series starts in a post apocalyptic world where dragons roam the skies burning cities and the people in them. A young women named Claudia is caught and captured by leaders in her make shift town for breaking one of their laws. She was outside their town's border trying to find food for her sisters. They decide as her punishment they are going to leave her in a building for a dragon. They heard rumors that a woman tamed a dragon in another town and they are using her to gather information and experiment. A huge dragon descends on Claudia but he doesn't hurt her and actually he is able to shift into a human like person with lust in his eyes.
What works really well is the heroine, Claudia. She is funny, strong and loyal to her sisters. Her internal and external dialogue is cute and funny. Kael, the dragon/human) is sexy and possessive. What doesn't work so well for me is that he is a bit too basic or simple in his communication with Claudia. I do like a sexy barbarian like character but this was more " Me Tarzan You Jane" kind of communication. When Kael found Claudia he claimed her as his mate and that was really the extent of the romance.
If you loved Ruby Dixon's Ice Planet Barbarian series you should give this one a try. Even though I didn't love this one, I look forward to the next book in the series because I do love the writing style of the author.
Great new world - interesting storyline based ~ on Fated Mate concept (altho that premise was a bit diluted later in book). I really had a hard time putting this down & found myself thinking over the 'world' after I read it - great imagery & fired the imagination! I was a bit impatient mid-book with the unrealistic thoughts & actions of the heroine - redundancy too. She didn't seem curious enough about dragonkind dynamics / life/ history or much of a problem-solver - which made her single dimensional & a bit disappointing for me.
Also, I had a couple problems with the practical side of things It never rains in Dallas? They build a 'nest' in a top floor with big gaping holes in the ceiling/roof & don't think about protecting the furniture she acquires from rain damage? Or she's only got tattered clothes at the end of the story but earlier noted how such large sections of Dallas were unsalvaged - finding all kinds of items to furnish the nest but no clothes from any dept or boutique stores? Months later is considering getting a tub - why not immediately? I imagine most of us could easily figure out how to rig a hose, tub & secondary water storage for the gray bathwater (flush toilet). Not to mention other foraging expeditions for camping gear - cooking items, food. Maybe that is all implied but I was left with the impression their living quarters & conditions were still very rough & that doesn't make sense to me - it sounded too temporary.
However, after reading this for free with my Unlimited subscription, I went back & bought it (as I do for all of the IPB series). I will definitely be one of the first in line to buy sequels.
